So I have survived the first day and I am still alive. I haven’t wasted away, nor have I run amok in the nearest Greggs. I have had a good day and I am really pleased with how it’s all gone.
I am still trying to work out how to do fancy things on WordPress and so please bare with me. I had planned to do a separate section and fill it with recipes in order for those of you that want to join me on the journey of the 5:2 diet. This hasn’t worked out as planned and so I will try and include each of my recipes whenever I do a blog.
I woke up feeling very motivated to start! I got up and scrambled an egg. I zapped my egg with a splash of skimmed milk in the microwave and served with a couple of slices of ham. An very nice 180 calories consumed for breakfast before I started my fast for the day. I washed this down with glass of squash. Squash hardly contains any calories and so it is possible to drink as much as you like on fast days. I felt ready for my fast day.
I went off to work ready to face my first day of fasting. I was feeling good after my morning egg. I was fully expecting to be hungry as soon as I got to my desk. Feeling determined, I grabbed myself a coffee.
I managed to keep myself busy today which meant I wasn’t able to think long enough about food. It was also rather nice to be distracted by the deadline day of the transfer window. Exciting stuff!
I managed to get through any pangs of hunger by drinking a coffee or having a glass of water. I experienced none of the moodiness which some people complain about on the diet. I felt like my normal self.
It got to the end of the day and I headed home. We have been using the BBC Good food app and the Hairy Bikers dieting book to plan meals for our fast days. Tonight we went for a recipe from the BBC app. Tonight’s choice was a bacon, leek and potato bake. You can find the recipe here: http://www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/5912/leek-potato-and-bacon-bake
At only 153 calories for portion, this is a brilliant meal! We have tried this before and so we knew what to expect. It’s particularly good as it includes my favourite type of food; BACON! You boil the leek and the potato in boiling chicken stock and so there is loads of flavour in this and you are able to get a substantial amount in portion. It was very nice indeed; particularly after an 11 hour gap after my breakfast.
I sit here writing this blog, feeling satisfied. I am not hungry after my day of sub 500 calories and I am extremely proud that I have resisted breaking my fast day on day 1. Tomorrow will be my first ‘eat normally’ day and I do not intend to ruin the good that I’ve done today. I am extremely pleased.
My next fast day will be on Thursday. I plan to be able to give you another update on what I hope will be another successful fast day at some point on the evening! I hope you are enjoying the blog! Please subscribe and see how I’m getting on!
